The Book Rental Scheme has been running since 2013. In September 2019, Scoil Chroí Íosa introduced full school packs as part of the Book Rental Scheme which is now in operation throughout the school.
What is a Book Rental Scheme?
The Book Rental Scheme loan textbooks to pupils and charge an annual rental fee. The books are owned by the Rental Scheme Committee, and are rented out each year. Many schools run Book Rental Schemes. The cost of renting the books from the school is much lower than buying the books in a bookshop.
How does our Book Rental Scheme operate?
On joining the scheme, you will be asked to pay a once-off deposit of €20, which will be returned to you when your child leaves the school. On paying the deposit, you are agreeing to look after the books and return them in good condition to the end of the year. You will receive details of book lists, workbooks and stationary required for the next school year, and the associated costs with that.
When your child comes back to school in September, their book pack covered by the scheme will be in the classroom on the first day. Your child will use the textbooks for the school year. It is important that your child looks after the books carefully as they belong to the school. At the end of the school year, you will the return the borrowed textbooks to the school in good condition.
What are the benefits of a Book Rental Scheme?
Buying school books for your children can be very costly for parents especially if they have more than one child in the school. This scheme allows schools to buy the school books and then rent them out to students at a much lower cost than if a parent was to buy. The aim is to keep costs to a minimum during the Back To School period when financial demands are a burden on families. The extra options available are also convenient for parents by providing all textbooks, workbooks and stationary.
