We had a fantastic day and travelled home in style on a double decker bus!

Polar Bears:
We have learnt about polar bears over the past few weeks. They live in the Arctic and are really large animals with a great sense of smell! Although their fur appears to be white, it is actually transparent and reflects back the colour surrounding the polar bear - the white snow! Take a look at our polar bear masks that we made during art!

History:
We worked as archaeologists trying to discover something about the past. We had to use our tools very carefully and dig very slowly to make sure we didn't damage any potential discoveries! We had 4 different sites in Senior Infants and found the remains of a birthday party - balloons, candles and drink caps! It was great fun!

An Investigation:
In our latest science experiment, we made spiral snakes and then investigated what would happen to the snakes when they were held in the air (with a still hand) and what would happen if we held them over the radiator! In the air, the snakes were still but when held over a source of heat, the heat rises and causes the snake to move!

Christmas Performance: Whoops-a-Daisy Angel
We performed our very first play on 18th December. The children did a superb job, dancing, singing, and delivering their lines with great gusto and clarity! It was wonderful to see how quickly the boys and girls grew in confidence during their drama classes - from the first rehearsal to their final performance for their Mums, Dads and grandparents on the stage! Well done Senior Infants! Ms. Woulfe is very proud of you!

Science Week:
As part of Science week in Senior Infants we did an experiment to see which items sink and which items float when put into water! We did a test to see whether white chocolate or milk chocolate would melt faster and we also made 2D shapes out of cocktail sticks and mini marshmallows! We were busy planting cress seeds as well and put some pots in the light and some in the dark to investigate what plants need to grow! Scientists investigate, predict and examine their results!

Caring for Our Environment:
Freddie the Fish has helped us learn about what we should recycle, water pollution and how we can care for the environment. Freddie told us he really doesn't want to live in water with rubbish, oil and soil in it! We need to do our best to make sure this doesn't happen! Freddie is watching us in our classrooms to make sure we dispose of our waste properly and and keep our classroom environmentally friendly! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

We have learned lots of different things about Autumn - It is a season where the days get shorter, the leaves of deciduous trees turn yellow, brown and red before they fall off and when some animals like squirrels, bears and hedgehogs prepare for their winter sleep called hibernation!
