Lunchtime Pals is back!
The idea of Lunchtime pals is to make our Scoil Chroí Íosa yard, a yard which is even more active and more inclusive of all. We will seek to promote greater levels of activity in the yard, improve gross motor skills, offer opportunities for turn taking, sharing and following rules etc.
It also has links with Health promoting schools, The active flag and PE curriculum and in particular provides really great learning opportunities for our SEN children e.g. Structured social play (often recommended for SEN children), opportunities to practise gross motor skills, turn taking, sharing, lining up etc.
The children really enjoy the lunch time pals games and activities which include hula hooping, scoopers, ring toss, skittles, basketball, mini basketball, soccer shots, catch pads, skipping and much more. Alex Oleksy is the Senior Infant Lunchtime pal. Well done Alex!
World Book Day 2018
Some of our favourite books that we have read.
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl
Our teacher is reading us this novel. It is a lot of fun! We are really enjoying it!
Kandinsky Art
A fun way to learn about Maths, the circle and the no. 8, by looking and responding to artist Kandinsky's famous concentric circle painting. This piece of art really appeals to children.
Maths stations
Learning to tell the time
We are learning to tell the time in one hour intervals. Here we are making clocks.
Carol singing
Senior infants and rang 2 of Scoil Chroì Ìosa got the festive fundraising off to a great start, €210 raised towards tablets for the school and buckets of Christmas cheer spread in Blarney village today! Many thanks to all the parents that showed up to support.
'Tis the season to be jolly
Did you catch us on the Evening Echo?
Our RTÉ debut on the Late late toy show documentary!
Popcorn at the ready for Wed. 29th November @ 7pm RTÉ 1 - it is rumoured that there will be some familiar Scoil Chroí Íosa faces making their television debut on "The Late Late Toy show documentary". Also, huge thanks to everybody who offered to help prepare my classroom on the day, for Ryan Tubridy and crew, at such short notice!
Much appreciated,
Ms. O Connor
Evening Echo Kidzone
Some of our lovely Senior infant pupils featured in the Evening Echo last week.
Science week
We used our investigation and prediction skills this week! We really liked exploring how magnets attract and repel. The floating and sinking experiment was really fun.
Blarney Castle and Insomnia cafe
We really enjoyed our reward of exploring Blarney castle and an Insomnia hot chocolate and gingerbread man. Many thanks to Jenna in Insomnia Blarney. The class made a huge effort to win the Scoil Chroí Íosa junior school championships trophy which recognises exemplary behaviour. Our teacher is really proud of us.
Great fun at the Dioscò Draoichta!
Ryan Tubridy visits our class
Ms. O Connor and Miss Fitzgerald had a BIG surprise today in Scoil Chroì Ìosa! Snr. Infnts and Miss Fitzgerald's rang 2 had a visit from Ryan Tubridy and the Late Late Toy Show documentary film crew!
Ryan heard about the great work that goes on in Scoil Chroì Ìosa and he wanted to come along and see for himself. The pupils told him jokes and sang songs. Ryan sat in the teacher's chair and declared it "National no homework day in Scoil Chroi Iosa." He then went outside to meet the staff and parents. The children are looking forward to their debut on RTE when the true magic of the whole day will be aired on television. What a day!

Maths Week in class |
|
We celebrated Maths week by making a Maths monster. We agreed that his name should be "Six eyed Bob" due to the plethora of eyes we gave him. We are learning about the story of 6. We played fun Maths games such as snakes and ladders, Find that shape and Counting machine. We also learned about number lines.
Getting Halloween ready
It's great to learn about Halloween when we're learning about Autumn. Here we are preparing for Halloween in Senior Infants. Check out these painted pumpkins.
