Welcome to Ms. McHugh's Speech and Language Class!
Term 3 News:
Our Aistear theme this month was the Restaurant. In our Home Corner, we set up a restaurant where we practiced setting the table, taking orders, cooking and serving our delicious food! We made Chocolate Easter Chick Nests and Easter baskets. We created glittery cupcakes from clay. We went on a summer scavenger hunt with our 4th class helpers to Blarney Castle. We went on our first school tour to Leahy's Farm. It was a wonderful experience with a petting area, barrel train and giant slide! We had a fantastic day!
TERM 2 NEWS
This month we have been learning all about animals. We have been learning about life on a farm and how to look after our pets. We had a 'pet' calf visit us. We brought our beautiful daffodils that we planted in November home for Valentine's Day. We baked heart shaped biscuits and ate delicious pancakes we made ourselves! Our role play area has become the Vet's Clinic. We were visited by Dawn and Piper from Dog's Trust Ireland and received certificates to show how much we learned about dog care!
In January, our Aistear topic was The Arctic. We learned all about Arctic animals, Inuit peoples lives, weather conditions and the Northern Lights. For sensory play we created a 'snow box'. We used shaving foam to imitate snow. Messy but great fun!
We investigated the properties of ice in science and learned all about floating and sinking. In maths, we created igloos with our giant polydron shapes and made a 3D shape city!
This month we began Aistear (Learning Through play framework) in our class. Our first theme was Houses and Homes.
